The Starlighters is a traditional big band: 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, a drum set, piano, bass, guitar and vocalists. The band has been performing in venues throughout central and Eastern Missouri for decades.

The Starlighters played as a combo group in the 50s and 60s under the leadership of Don Hahne. In 1998, he donated the bandstands and the original music to a new group of musicians. The Starlighters grew into an 18-member group plus back-ups. We perform primarily in the Franklin County area and occasionally in St Louis but have traveled as far as the Lake of the Ozarks and Chester, Illinois.

We play swing, jazz, and rock. Our influences include Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Chicago, Brian Setzer, and Louie Prima.

Where are you based?

Most of our rehearsals take place in Washington, Missouri. We perform throughout central and Eastern Missouri.

Who are your band members?

We are a group of musicians from all walks of life who simply enjoy playing music. Members include Mike Kanaan, Tom Hanneken, Leonard Vader, Shari Fischer, Travis Moore, Terry Lanwermeyer, Steve Hausmann, Roger Hager, Robbie Hausmann, Bob Hillermann, Ben Hillermann, Dan Houchins, Trey Coleman, John Straatmann, Dave Baylard, Laurie Riekoff, Erich Eastman, Melissa Fyr-Potter, Chad Haley, and Paul Varley.

What do you charge?

The band is available for a variety of events at extremely reasonable rates. Dependent upon travel distance, rates start at $300 an hour for a minimum of 2 hours.
